A Bit About Me

The 'Eureka moment' for this project came when I was in Coles supermarket in Echuca. I was looking for some snacks to take back to the hotel during an overnight visit. I walked towards the exit noticing a young man in his work overalls, a mum and dad with two primary school aged kids and a middle-aged woman in her Coles uniform. I wondered if they lived locally or were they visiting the town, like me. As I was putting my supplies through the self-checkout, it dawned on me, if anyone here is unfortunate enough to have a stroke, they will not be cared for by a stroke specialist. It's time for that to change!

I have extensive experience in emergency stroke telehealth. Why not use these skills to support the stroke patients in the next stage of their journey? In the post COVID-era, and with advancement in technologies, geography should no longer be a barrier to care. BUILDS developed from this moment.

One of my main clinical and research interests is optimising the acute stroke treatment workflow. I want to make the acute assessment and treatment process of acute stroke patients more consistent and I want to make sure this is available to all Australians. In doing this, we can maximise the effect of the incredible treatments that exist for stroke care.
